about

“Winterludes” is a mini album just under 10 minutes long. Intended to be listened to all at once, it is made up of short violin and viola melodies, interspersed with windy interludes, duets with windy field recordings taken during several St. John’s snowstorms. While listening, imagine that you are gazing out the window during a lonely February day filled with snow squalls, longing for those glimpses of the sun in the dead of winter.

This music was created as part of my creative process to compose music for an upcoming play, which is set during the famous 2020 “Snowmageddon” storm. My process was largely improvisatory, and much of it done in single takes. Included is some looping, fragments of a Yiddish tango song and a quote from a favourite ballet.

This is my first ever RPM challenge, after living in Newfoundland for over 7 years and seeing so many friends and colleagues create these year after year. Proud to release my first one! Hope you enjoy.
